No.25 BW Women’s Golfers Win Wooster Invitational

WOOSTER, OHIO --   The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion and 25th-ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's golf team captured its second straight tournament team title today (Saturday, October 6, 2012) at the two-day and 36-hole The College of Wooster Invitational Tournament. This is the fourth of five fall tournaments for the BW women during the non-traditional portion of its schedule.

Today, BW totaled a tourney-low 333 strokes today and combined with the 335-stroke total it shot on the first day on the par-72 and 5,878-yard Wooster Country Club course, the Yellow Jackets' 668-stroke total bested second place Denison University. Last weekend, BW won the Otterbein University-Capital University Cardinal-Crusader Classic in Columbus.

The Yellow Jacket women were led by junior 2-time All-OAC player Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Dayton Christian) who fired a career-low 78 on the first day and followed it with an 82 today for a 160-stroke total to be the tourney runner-up as an individual.

Cunningham was followed by 2-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) with rounds of 84 and 82 for a 166 total, junior 2-time All-OAC player Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) with rounds of 85 and 86 for a 171 total, junior 2-time All-OAC player Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/ Darby) with rounds of 88 and season-low of 83 today for a 171 total and freshman Laura Vidmar (Willoughby/ South) had rounds of 95 and 97 for a 192 total.

In addition and playing as an individuals were junior Sarah Allred (Akron/ Green), who had rounds of 87 and 93 for a 180 total; freshman Sabre Adkins (Dublin/ Coffman), who had rounds of 91 and 98 for a 189 total; and senior Sarah Terrill (Cuyahoga Falls/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy), who had rounds of 117 and 103 for a 220 total. 

The Yellow Jackets played without senior CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy).

Following the Wooster Tournament, the BW women end their non-traditional fall season schedule on Oct. 13-14 at the Annual Wittenberg University "Clash at the Clouse" Tournament in Springfield. 

This fall, Kapusta tops the team in stroke average at 83.25 in four tournaments and eight rounds of 18 holes. She is followed by Woolf at 83.83, Hamilton at 84.0 in three tourneys and six rounds, Cunningham at 84.63, Jones at 88.88, Allred at 90.33, Adkins at 91.00 in two tourneys and four rounds, Vidmar at 93.13 and Terrill at 108.5 in three events and six rounds.

The 2013 spring season begins in March when the BW women head south on its annual Spring Break trip.  The regular season concludes with the annual OAC Championship Tournament with the winning team receiving an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
