No.25 Women's Golf Team Finish Second at Allegheny Tourney

MEADVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA-- The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion and 25th-ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's golf team finished second of five teams at the annual Allegheny College Fall Invitational Tournament at the Meadville Country Club.  This is the second fall event for the Yellow Jackets during their non-traditional five-tournament fall season.
 
The Yellow Jackets totaled 340 strokes on the first day and 348 strokes today for a two-day and 36-hole total of 688 strokes on the par-73 and 5,385-yard Meadville C.C. layout. Allegheny College was the team champion and Sarah Vorder Bruegge was the tournament medalist as she fired rounds of 79 and 76 for a 36-hole total of 155 strokes. In collegiate golf, a team consists of five student-athletes with the top four scores counting toward the team total.

The Yellow Jacket women were led by junior two-time All-OAC standout and No.1 player Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) with a 77 on day one and a 91 on day two for a total of 168. She was followed by senior 2-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) with an 85 on day one and a 84 on day two for a total of 169, senior CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) was next with an day one total of  86 and 83 on day two for a total of 169, junior 2-time All-OAC player Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Christian) with a 92 on day one and a 90 on day two for a total of 182 and junior Sarah Allred (Akron/ Green) scored a day one total of 93 and a day two score of 94 for a total of 187.

In addition and playing as an individuals were junior 2-time All-OAC player Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/ Darby) who fired an 88 on day one and a 93 on day two for a total of 181 and freshman Laura Vidmar (Willoughby/ South) who carded a 90 on day one and a 93 on day two for a two day total of 183. Freshmen Sabre Adkins (Dublin/ Coffman) and senior Sarah Terrill (Cuyahoga Falls/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) did not play this weekend.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29-30 when they travel to the Grearer Columbus area to play at the Capital-Otterbein Crusader-Cardinal Fall Invitational at the New Albany Country Club in New Albany.

BW entered the season ranked 25th in the NGCA (National Golf Coaches Association) Division III rankings (http://www.bwyellowjackets.com/sports/wgolf/2012-13/releases/preseason_tournament).

The past two years, the BW women's golf program has been one of the best in NCAA Division III. The Yellow Jackets have won nine tournament titles, including back-to-back OAC crowns, have advanced to two straight NCAA Division III national tournaments and have a 140-44-1 record.  All five Yellow Jacket starters have each earned All-OAC accolades the past two years.
