BW Women's Golf Team Places Sixth at OAC Championship Tournament

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's golf team finished sixth of nine teams on the second and final day (Sunday, April 25) of the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament played at the Fowlers Mill Golf Club in Chesterland, Ohio.

The Yellow Jackets had a round-two total of 380 strokes on the par-71 and 5,815-yard Fowlers Mill layout.  Combined with a 386 from day one, BW shot 766 for the tournament.

Otterbein College won the team title at 668 strokes and was followed in the top five by Ohio Northern University (685), Mount Union College (742), Heidelberg University  (759) and John Carroll University (759).

"I'm very proud of how the team competed this weekend," said second-year Head Coach Sean Strickland. "While we didn't accomplish our ultimate goal (of winning a championship), we did shoot our two best rounds of the spring."

Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets on day two was freshman Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) with a career-best 85. The round also tied freshman Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) for the team season-best. Kapusta finished at 179 strokes (95-85) for the tournament, good for 14th place.

Also on day two, Hamilton was second at 89 and placed in a tie for 17th place overall at 186 strokes, freshman Sarah Terrill (Cuyahoga Falls/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) shot 101, and freshman Emily Eighmy (Erie, Pa./ Villa Maria Academy) rounded out the scoring at 105. Junior Nicole Carlone (Canton/ Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas) shot 107.

This was the final tournament for the season for BW.

"It was a definite positive to finish the season strong, especially considering how many freshman we had playing for us," noted Strickland. I definitely like the direction the program is heading, especially with the next group of freshman we have coming into our program. The future looks very bright for BW women's golf."
