BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's golf team shot a final-round 376 to place seventh of 10 teams competing at the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Creekwood Golf Course in Columbia Station, Ohio.
Cleveland State University captured the team title with a second-round 324 and a two-round total of 651. Clarion University was second at 662 strokes and had freshman Jenna Rinker capture tournament medalist honors at 73+79 = 152 (+8).
For BW, freshman Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) shot a 90 to place in a tie for 15th overall at 175 strokes. Junior Nicole Carlone (Canton/ St. Thomas Aquinas) shot a career-best 91 on day two to place tied for 27th overall. Junior Sam Migalski (Manahawkin, N.J./ Southern Regional) was third for the Jackets on day two with a 96 and freshman Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) rounded out the scoring with a 99. Sophomore Caci Lewandowski (Sharon Center/ Medina Highland) was fifth for the BW scorers with a 100.
The Yellow Jackets' two-day team average of 378 is nearly 20 strokes better than last year's team average of 396.4. "I'm very pleased with our progress, said Head Coach Sean Strickland. "It's a good way to start a season and it's something very positive to build on. We definitely feel good about the direction the program is heading."
Three Jacket freshmen also competed as individuals. Emily Eighmy (Erie, Pa./ Villa Maria Academy) shot 96, Sarah Terrill (Cuyahoga Falls/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) totaled 114 and RaeAnn Pina (South Amherst/ Medina Buckeye) withdrew due to illness.
BW is back in action next weekend (Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19-20) for the John Carroll University Invitational at Fowler's Mill Golf Course in Chesterland.
