Softball Drops a Pair of Games to Ohio Northern

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team dropped a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games to Ohio Northern University on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

Ohio Northern (14-13-1, 13-12 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 2-0.   The Polar Bears scored seven runs in the last two innings to win the second game by a score of 7-4.

In game one BW (18-10, 16-10 OAC) was held scoreless for the first time this season on three hits.  Ohio Northern scored two runs on four hits as it plated one run in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore left fielder Jackie Kasai (Columbus/Upper Arlington) as she recorded one of the team's base knocks, including the only extra base hit with a double.   Junior All-OAC right fielder Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) and freshman short stop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) added the other base knocks.

In the circle, junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) suffered just her third loss of the season as she allowed two runs (one earned)on four hits with nine strikeouts and two walks, including one intentional.

In game two, BW scored four runs on six hits as it plated two runs in the second and fifth innings. The Polar Bears scored seven runs on 11 hits as it pushed six runs across the plate in the sixth and one in the seventh.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Kasai as she went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a run batted-in (RBI) and a stolen base.  Four other BW hitters had a base knock highlighted by the double from senior Academic All-OAC third baseman Kami Miracle (Uniontown/Green).

In the circle, junior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) got the start and the no decision as she allowed four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.   Sophomore right hander Sydni Uhlenberg (Allen Park. Mich.) took the loss as she allowed three runs on four hits in 1.2 innings pitched.

BW is back in action on Sunday, April 25 when it travels to Ada to close out its weekend series with Ohio Northern University on the ONU Softball Field at 1 p.m.
