Softball Takes Weekend Series, Wins Four Games Against Otterbein

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team won its first weekend series by sweeping all four Ohio Athletic Conference games against Otterbein University with the last two coming on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

BW (11-7, 9-7 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 6-0. The Yellow Jackets won their fourth straight game as they won the second game by a final score of 2-1.

In game one, BW scored six runs on nine hits as it plated two runs in the first inning, two in the third on the two-run home run by freshman catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) and two in the fifth. Otterbein (8-12, 5-11 OAC) was held scoreless on three hits.

The Yellow Jackets were led at the plate by Bricker as she went 3-for-3 with a double, homerun, one run scored and a career-high five runs batted-in (RBIs). Freshman short stop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a walk.

In the circle, junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) won her seventh game of the season as she threw a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts in six innings.  Junior Academic All-OAC righty Emily Lesco (Wickliffe) pitched a scoreless seventh inning and did not allow a run on two hits with one walk.

In game two, BW scored two runs on six hits as it plated one run in the fifth and the game-winner on the RBI single from junior All-OAC designated hitter Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban. The Cardinals scored one runs on four hits as they got their lone run in the fourth inning.

BW was led at the plate by Matousek as she went 2-for-3 with the game-winning RBI.  Four other Yellow Jackets had a base knock highlighted by the RBI double from sophomore first baseman Raegan Thompson (Mentor).

In the circle, Camarati earned her second win of the day as she allowed one run on four hits with 11 strikeouts and two walks.

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 10 when it travels to University Heights for an OAC doubleheader against crosstown rival John Carroll University at 1 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets return home on Sunday, April 11 for an OAC doubleheader against the Blue Streaks at 1 p.m.
