Softball Splits with Wilmington for Second Straight Day

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team closed out its home-and-home weekend series with Wilmington College as it split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader for the second straight day on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex

BW (6-4, 4-4 OAC) won the first game in five innings by a final score of 10-2. Wilmington (6-6. 5-3 OAC) won the nightcap by a final score of 4-1.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored 10 runs on 14 hits as they plated two runs in the second on the homerun by freshman catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), one in the third, two in the fourth and five in the fifth. The Quakers scored two runs on on four hits as they scored their only runs on the two-run homer by Arianna Layne in the fourth.

BW was led at the plate by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) as she went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.  Bricker was 2-for-2 with a homerun, one run scored and three runs batted-in.  Junior All-OAC designated player Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.  Senior Academic All-OAC third baseman Kami Miracle (Uniontown/Green) was 2-for-3. 

In the circle, junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) went to 4-0 on the season as she allowed two runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored one run on seven hits as they plated their lone run in the second inning. Wilmington scored four runs on seven hits as it plated one run in the fourth and three in the fifth, including two on the homer from Layne.

BW was led at the plate by freshman shortstop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) as she went 3-for-3 with a run scored.

In the circle,  junior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) took the loss as she allowed two runs on two hits in 4.1 innings pitched with three strikeouts and three walks.   Camarati pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed two runs on two hits with four strikeouts.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, March 27 when they host the first day of the home-and-home OAC doubleheader against Heidelberg University at 1 p.m.
