Softball Drops OAC Doubleheader to Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball suffered its first losses of the season as it dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader to Muskingum University on Donna J. Newberry Field.

Muskingum (3-5, 2-2 OAC) won the opener by a final score of 9-8 and took the nightcap by a final score of 7-6. 

In game one, BW (4-2, 2-2 OAC) scored eight runs on 15 hits as it plated all eight runs in the second inning highlighted by homeruns from senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) and freshman catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark).   The Fighting Muskies scored nine runs on eight hits as it scored eight runs in the first inning and the game winner in the fourth.

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman shortstop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) as she went 4-for-4 with one run scored. Senior All-OAC center fielder Macy Leach (Westerville/North) as she went 3-for-5 with one run scored and one run batted-in.   Sophomore first baseman Raegan Thompson (Mentor) and sophomore left fielder Jackie Kasai (Columbus/Upper Arlington) each went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

In the circle, junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) started the game and pitched one-third of an inning and allowed seven runs (four earned) on three hits with two walks.  Sophomore righty Sydni Uhlenberg (Allen Park, Mich.) suffered the loss as she allowed two runs on five hits with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched.

In game two, BW scored six runs on eight hits as it plated five runs in the third and one in the sixth.  Muskingum scored seven runs on nine hits as it scored one run in the first, five in the second and the game winner in the sixth.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Thompson as she went 2-for-3 with a double, one run scored and two RBIs.  Kozich went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.  Mau was 2-for-4.   Junior All-OAC right fielder Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) went 1-for-4 with a homerun, run scored and three RBIs.

In the circle, junior right hander Hannah Welling (Ravenna) suffered her first loss of the season as she allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts and five walks.

BW is back in action on Saturday, March 20 when it travels to Wilmington for an OAC doubleheader against Wilmington College at 1 p.m.
