Softball Claims Second Straight Weekend Sweep

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team earned its second straight weekend sweep as it won both games of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against John Carroll University on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

BW (15-7, 13-7 OAC), who has won eight straight games and won all , won the opener by a final score of 7-2.  The Yellow Jackets completed the four-game sweep as it took the second game by a final score of 8-3. John Carroll (4-17, 4-15 OAC) has now lost 11 straight games.

In game one,  BW scored seven runs on nine hits as it plated three runs in the first, one in the second and three in the sixth.  The Blue Streaks scored two runs on eight hits as they pushed one run across the plate in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Yellow Jackets were led at the plate by sophomore left fielder Jackie Kasai (Columbus/Upper Arlington) as she went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two runs batted-in (RBIs).  Freshman short stop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) went 2-for-4 with one run scored and an RBI.  Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) was 2-for-3.

In the circle, junior right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name), who is this week's OAC Pitcher of the Week, picked up her 10th of the season as she allowed two runs on eight hits with 10 strikeouts with one walk.

In game two, BW scored eight runs on 13 hits as it plated six runs in the first and one in the third and sixth innings, including a solo home run by freshman catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) in the sixth. John Carroll scored three runs on eight hits at is pushed one run across the[plate in the first, fourth and seventh innings

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by Kasai, Kozich and sophomore first baseman Raegan Thompson (Mentor) as the trio went 2-for-4.  Kasai scored two runs.  Kozich and Thompson each had a double, run scored and RBI.  Freshman center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermilion/Firelands) was 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI.

In the circle, junior right Hannah Welling (Ravenna) won her fourth game of the season and second straight as she allowed two unearned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.  Sophomore right hander Sydni Uhlenberg (Allen Park, Mich.) pitched the final inning and allowed one run on two hits.

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 17 when it hosts an OAC doubleheader against Marietta College at 1 p.m.
