Softball Winning Streak Ends at 11, Splits with Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team saw its 11-game winning streak come to an end as it split a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games against Marietta College on the Marietta Softball Field.

BW (18-8, 16-8 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 12-1 in five innings.  Marietta (10-14, 10-14 OAC) won game two by a final score of 2-1 in nine innings.

In game one, BW scored 12 runs on 14 hits as it plated two runs in the first inning off the home run by junior All-OAC designated player Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban), seven in the second highlighted by the second career grand slam from freshman catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) and a solo shot by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon), two in the fourth and one in the fifth.  Marietta (9-15, 9-15 OAC) scored one run on two hits as it pushed its lone run across the plate in the fourth inning.

At the plate, the Yellow Jackets were led by Matousek as she went 3-for-3 with a homerun, three runs scored and two runs batted-in (RBIs). Bricker was 2-for-4 with a double, grand slam, two runs scored and four RBIs.  Freshman center fielder Lexy Coggins (vermilion/Firelands) went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Sophomore left fielder Jackie Kasai (Columbus/Upper Arlington) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

In the circle, junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name), who is this week's OAC Pitcher of the Week, won her league leading 12th game as she did not allow a run or hit with five strikeouts and one walk in three innings.  Junior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) pitched one inning and allowed one run on two hits.  Sophomore right hander Sydni Uhlenberg (Allen Park, Mich.) pitched the final scoreless and hitless inning. 

In game two, BW scored one run on three hits as it plated its lone run in the third inning. The Pioneers scored two runs on eight hits as they pushed one across the plate in the sixth and one in the ninth. 

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by Matousek as she went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. 

In the circle, Camarati suffered just her second loss of the season as she allowed two runs on eight hits with 11 strikeouts and one walk.

BW returns to action on Saturday, April 24 when it travels to Ada for an OAC doubleheader against Ohio Northern University on the ONU Softball Field at 1 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets return home on Sunday, April 25 when it hosts the weekend series finale vs. the Polar Bears on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex at 1 p.m.
