BEREA, Ohio –  For the second consecutive day, the Baldwin Wallace University softball team defeated crosstown rival John Carroll University in a rescheduled game by a final score of 2-0x on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex. 

John Carroll (0-2) served as the home team as the original schedule was for a doubleheader at Bracken Field in University on Sunday.  That doubleheader was rescheduled to the BW Softball Field due to field conditions, then was postponed due to cold weather and wind chills for a single seven inning game.

BW (2-0) scored two runs all in the second inning on six hits.  The Blue Streaks were held scoreless on two hits.  John Carroll loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning but Yellow Jacket senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC second Alex Kozich (Avon) caught liner and doubled up the runner with a throw to third baseman Kami Miracle (Uniontown/Green.) to end the game.

The BW offense was led by sophomore designated player Raegan Thompson (Mentor) as she went 2-for-2 with a walk.   Sophomore left fielder Jackie Kasai (Columbus/Upper Arlington) went 1-for-1 with two runs batted-in (RBIs) and two walks. 

In the circle, junior right hander Hannah Welling (Ravenna) picked up the win as pitched six scoreless innings for her first win of the season.   Welling allowed zero runs on two hits with six strikeouts and five walks.  Junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) closed the door as she pitched a scoreless seventh inning for her third career save.  Camarati allowed no runs on no hits with one strikeouts and one walk.

The Yellow Jackets are is back in action on Saturday, March 13 as they host an OAC doubleheader against Muskingum University at 1 p.m.
