Softball Drops a Pair of Games to Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team closed its home-and-home weekend series with Heidelberg University as it an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Frann's Field.

Heidelberg (5-9-1, 4-8 OAC) won the first game in five innings by a final score of 10-2.   The Student Princes won the second game in six innings by a final scored of 18-10.

In game one, BW (7-7, 5-7) scored two runs on eight hits as it plated both runs in the fifth.  The Student Princes scored 10 runs on 10 hits as the pushed one run across the plate in the third, three in the fourth and sixth in the fifth.

BW was led at the plate by sophomore second baseman Alicia Saxton (Boardman) as she went 2-for-2 with a double.  Junior All-OAC designated player Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) and sophomore first baseman Raegan Thompson (Mentor) each went 2-for-3 with a run batted-in (RBI).  Matousek also added a double.

In the circle, junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) suffered her first loss of the season as she allowed 10 runs (seven earned) on 10 hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored 10 runs on 12 hits as they plated seven runs in the first and three in the third. Heidelberg scored 18 runs on 16 hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the first, two in the third, four in the fourth, three in the fifth and eight in the sixth. 

BW was led at the plate by freshman short stop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) as she went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Thompson was 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and an RBI. Matousek went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Freshman catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) was for 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.

In the circle, junior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) took the loss as she allowed 13 runs (six earned) on nine hits with seven strikeouts in four innings. Sophomore right hander Sydni Uhlenberg (Allen Park, Mich.) pitched the next 1.2 innings and allowed four runs on six hits with one walk.  Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference right hander Emily Lesco (Wickliffe) allowed the final run.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Sunday, March 28 when they open up its OAC home-and-home series with a doubleheader against Otterbein University on the Otterbein Softball Field at 1 p.m.
