Softball Opens OAC Action with a Pair of Victories

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team opened up Ohio Athletic Conference action with a pair of victories over Muskingum University on the BW Softball Field.

BW (4-0, 2-0 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 1-0 and rallied for a 3-1 victory in the nightcap.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored one run on five hits as they scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning.   Muskingum (1-5, 0-2 OAC) was held scoreless on just one hit.

BW was led by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) as she went 2-for-3 as she scored the game's only run on the sacrifice fly from freshman catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark).

In the circle, junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) pitched the complete game one-hit shutout and had 13 strikeouts and five walks.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored three runs on five hits as they pushed two runs across the plate in the fifth and one in the sixth.   The Fighting Muskies scored one run on five hits as they plated one run in the first inning.

BW was led by sophomore designated player Raegan Thompson (Mentor) as she went 2-for-3 with a run batted-in (RBI), which tied the game at one.  The Yellow Jackets got the only extra base hits of the doubleheader as senior All-OAC center fielder Macy Leach (Westerville/North) and senior first baseman Mackenzie Milligan (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) each had a double.

In the circle, junior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) earned her second victory of the season as she pitched the complete game.  Welling allowed just one run on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

BW is back in action on Sunday, March 14 when it travels to New Concord to close out the home-and-home weekend series with Muskingum at 1 p.m.
