Softball Earns Third Straight Split

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team opened its home-and-home weekend series with Heidelberg University as it split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex

BW (7-5, 5-5 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 3-0.   Heidelberg (3-9-1, 2-8 OAC) took the night cap by a final score of 6-1.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored three runs on five hits as it plated  one run in the first and two in the third. The Student Princes were held scoreless for the second time this season on three hits.

BW was led at the plate by freshman shortstop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) as she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a run batted-in.    

In the circle, junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) moved to 5-0 on the season as she posted her third shutout of the season. Camarati did not allow a run on three hits with 13 strikeouts and no walk.

In game two,  the Yellow Jackets score one run on five as they tallied their lone run in the fifth inning.  Heidelberg scored six runs on 10 hits as it plated three runs in the first, one on the second and two in the seventh. 

BW was led at the plate by freshman center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermilion/Firelands) went 2-for-3.  Junior All-OAC right fielder Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) freshman catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) and freshman third baseman Angel Minisall (LaGrange/Keystone) all went 1-for-3 with a double.  Matousek and Minisall each had a double.

In the circle, sophomore righty Sydni Uhlenberg (Allen Park, Mich.) suffered the loss as she allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts in four innings pitched. Junior right hander Hannah Welling (Ravenna)  pitched the final three innings and allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Sunday, March 28 when they close out the OAC home-and-home series with a doubleheader against Heidelberg at Frann's Field at 1 p.m.
