Softball Win Streak Hits 10, Wins Two vs. Marietta

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team has now won 10 straight games after winning  a pair of games over Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

BW (17-5, 15-5 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 5-1.  The Yellow Jackets took the second game by a final score of 7-5.

In game one, BW scored five runs on five hits as it plated four runs in the first off the second career grand slam for senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) and one in the sixth on the run batted-in (RBI) single by freshman center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands).  Marietta scored one run on four hits as it pushed its lone run across the plate in the seventh.

At the plate, the Yellow Jackets were led by Kozich as she went 2-for-3 with a double, grand slam, a run scored and 4 RBIs. 

In the circle, junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name), who is this week's OAC Pitcher of the Week, won her league leading 11th game as she allowed one run on four hits with 13 strikeouts and one walk.

In game two, BW scored seven runs on 10 hits as it plated one in the second, four in the third, including a three-run homerun by junior All-OAC designated player Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) and two in the fifth.  The Pioneers scored five runs on 11 hits as they pushed one run across the plate in the fourth and four in the sixth.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by Matousek as she went 3-for-3 with a homer, three runs scored and four RBIs.  Freshman catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) was 3-for-3 with a double.  Senior Academic All-OAC third baseman Kami Miracle (Uniontown/Green) went 2-for-3 with a double.  Sophomore left fielder Jackie Kasai (Columbus/Upper Arlington) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

In the circle, junior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) won her fifth game of the season as she allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 5.1 innings pitched.   Sophomore right hander Sydni Uhlenberg (Allen Park, Mich.) pitched one inning and allowed one run on two hits.   Camarati closed the game for her second save of the season as she did not allow a run on one hit in two-thirds of an inning.

BW closes out is weekend series with Marietta on Sunday, April 18 when it travels to Marietta for an OAC doubleheader on the Marietta Softball Field at 1 p.m.
