BW All-American Thrower Mitch Supan to Compete at USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University All-American freshman thrower Mitch Supan (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) has qualified to compete at the 2010 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships that will be held on June 23-27 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Supan will compete in the discus and hammer throw events on Friday, June 25.

Supan, a communications major, earned All-American honors in the discus with an eighth-place throw of 165 feet and two inches at the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet that was hosted by BW in late May. He enters the discus event with a qualifying throw of 170'2" and the hammer throw with a mark of 164'10."

"Mitch will be competing with essentially the best athletes in the country age 18-and-under," said BW Assistant Coach Eric Schmuhl.

"Many of our nation's Olympians were at one time competitors in the junior championships. In addition, the USA Elite National Championships will be running at the same time, putting Mitch elbow-to-elbow with our Olympians," noted Schmuhl.

The finals of the discus and hammer throws each take place on Friday and begin at 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., respectively.
