BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University track and field junior Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) became the first athlete in school history to earn All-American status in the weight throw after placing seventh in the event on day one (Friday, March 12) of the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. The All-America honor is the second in Phipps' career, as he also placed seventh in the discus throw at last year's outdoor championship meet.

Phipps finished Friday's preliminary round with the fifth best throw in his flight of 59 feet, 11 and three-quarter inches. In the finals, he was one of seven throwers to top 60 feet and hit his best mark of 60'1.75" on his third throw. Phipps' mark also was only a foot off of his own school-record (61'1.25").

Yellow Jacket senior thrower Greg Patrick (Collins/Western Reserve) competes on day two of the championships tomorrow. Patrick throws in the shot put at 1:00 p.m.
