Four Yellow Jacket Tracksters to Compete at 2010 NCAA Division III National Track Meet in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- Four Baldwin Wallace University outdoor track and field student-athletes have qualified to compete at the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet hosted by BW from Thursday through Saturday, May 27-29, at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.

The four Yellow Jackets are senior two-time All-American shot putter Greg Patrick(Collins/ Western Reserve), junior 2-time All-American Kevin Phipps (Patalaska/ Watkins Memorial) in both the discus and hammer, senior decathlete Steve Price (North Olmsted) and freshman discus thrower Mitch Supan (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit).

Patrick will compete in the shot put beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 28.  He ranks seventh in the nation after he re-set his own school record with a toss of 55'10.50" at the Toledo Tune-Up Meet on May 7. Patrick earned All-OAC honors after winning the shot put event with a throw of 54'2.75" at the OAC Championship Meet. Patrick earned All-American honors at last season's NCAA Div. III Outdoor Meet when he placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 53'1.50", and was named the Div. III Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year for the 2009 season.  This March, Patrick again earned All-American status by placing third in the shot put with a throw of 55'0.25" at the 2010 NCAA Div. III Indoor Championship and became the school's first-ever All-American in the indoor shot put.

Phipps will compete in both the hammer and discus throws.  The hammer throw begins at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27 and the discus will start at 2:30 p.m. on May 29.  He ranks fourth in the nation in each event entering the meet.  Phipps re-set his own school-records in the hammer with a throw of 194'10" at the All-Ohio Meet on April 17 at Ohio Wesleyan, and the discus with a throw 172'11" at the Allegheny College Gator Invitational on May 14.  Phipps received All-OAC honors in both the hammer throw and the discus after he placed first (191'11") and third (172'05"), respectively at the OAC Championship Meet.  Last year, he finished seventh in the discus at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships to earn All-America honors. This past March, Phipps earned his second All-American award when he placed seventh in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 60'1.75" at the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet.  He also has played three seasons of football for the Yellow Jackets.

Price will compete in the decathlon beginning at 12:00 p.m. on May 27.  He ranks seventh in Division III after scoring a career-best 6,718 points, including career-bests in five-of-10 events at Liberty (Va.) University Meet on April 3.  A year ago, Price placed 12th at the Div. III National Meet in the decathlon. He also played three seasons of football as a wide receiver for the Jackets.

Supan will compete in the discus starting at 2:30 p.m. on May 29.  He ranks 11th in the nation after his throw of 170'2" which he hit at the Allegheny College Gator Invitational.  Supan finished fourth at the OAC Outdoor Meet with a throw of 155'0".  This is his first-ever trip to the Div. III national meet.
