BW Men's Track and Field Team Place Fifth

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's track and field team placed fifth at the annual All-Ohio Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio on Saturday, April 17. This is the fifth week of spring competition for the Yellow Jackets.

The men had 70 points to place fifth.

Individually for the Yellow Jacket men, junior All-American Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/ Watkins Memorial) won the hammer with a throw of 194-feet and 10 inches and placed second in the discus with a throw of 159'3".  In addition, senior All-American Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) won the shot put with a throw of 52'9" and junior Matt Kromer (Parma/ Senior) qualified for the national meet by placing third in the discus with a career-best throw of 156'3."
 
The Yellow Jackets next compete on Saturday, April 24 when they host the annual Paul "Sparky" Adams Meet at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea. The field events begin at 10:00 a.m. and the running events start at 11:00 a.m.

Media and fans are reminded that Baldwin Wallace University will host the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Track and Field Championship Meet in The George Finnie Stadium in Berea, Ohio from May 27-29. For more information, visit http://www.bw.edu/athletics/10tracknationals/.

To date, five Yellow Jackets are qualified either automatically or provisionally for the 2010 NCAA Championship Meet.  They are Phipps in the discus and hammer, Patrick in the shot put, Kromer in the discus, freshman Mitch Supan (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) in the discus, senior Steve Price (North Olmsted) in the decathlon.
