Phipps and Supan Earn All-America Honors in Men's Discus on Day Three of NCAA Meet

BEREA, OHIO -- Junior Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) finished sixth earning his second All-America honor in three days and freshman Mitch Supan (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) was eighth in the men's discus on day three (Saturday, May 29) of the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Baldwin Wallace at Finnie Stadium in Berea.

As a team, the BW men finished tied for 34th with nine points, their best showing at nationals since 1996, when BW tied for 32nd. 

Phipps, who also finished sixth in the weight throw on Thursday, had a best throw of 168 feet-even on his third throw. He placed seventh in the discus last year.

Supan, making his first appearance at an NCAA Meet, hit a mark of 163'5" on his second throw, earning All-America status.

All together, BW had four All-Americans at this year's championships: Phipps in the discus (sixth) and hammer throws (sixth), Supan in the discus (eighth), and senior Greg Patrick (Collins/Western Reserve) in the shot put (seventh).
