Yellow Jacket Track and Field Teams Compete at Gator Invitational

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's outdoor track and field teams competed at the 2009 Gator Invite host by Allegheny (Pa.) College in Meadville, Pennsylvania.

On the men's side, sophomore Kevin Phipps (Reynoldsburg/ Watkins Memorial) improved his national provisional qualifying mark in the discus for the second straight week with a throw of 166-feet and five inches. Phipps placed first overall in the event and ranks fourth in all of Division III in the discus throw. He also placed second in the hammer throw with a career-best toss of 176'4".

Junior Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) placed second in the shot put with a throw of 53'3" and third in the discus with a throw of 155'8.5".

The Yellow Jackets return to action at the North Central (Ill.) College "Last Chance" Meet on Friday, May 15 in Naperville, Illinois. The meet is the last opportunity for student-athletes to qualify for the 2009 NCAA Divison III National Championship Meet to be held from May 21-23 at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.

Two Yellow Jackets, Patrick and Phipps are already qualified for the Division III national meet.
