Price Eighth After Day One of Decathlon at NCAA Championships

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University junior Steve Price (North Olmsted) sits in eighth place of 17 competitors after day one of the decathlon at the 2009 NCAA Track and Field Championships in Marietta, Ohio. The final five events of the decathlon begin at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow (Friday, May 22).

Price opened the day with a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.37). He then placed ninth in the long jump at 21 feet, six and three quarter inches and ninth in the shot put (38'5.5") before finishing third in the high jump with a career-best leap of 6'5.5". He closed out the day with a 16th-place performance in the 400m dash (53.06).

The 110m hurdles will open day two of the decathlon at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow and will be followed by the discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500m run.

Also competing for BW tomorrow are junior and sophomore throwers Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve)and Kevin Phipps (Reynoldsburg/ Watkins Memorial) in the discus throw at 4:30 p.m. Patrick was recently named the NCAA Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
