BW Men Place Second at Greater Cleveland Championship Meet in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field team placed second at the Greater Cleveland Championship Meet tonight (Friday, February 20, 2009) on the Harrison Dillard Track in the Lou Higgins Recreation Center Fieldhouse in Berea.  The meet was the last home meet of the indoor season.

The men's team scored 122.50 points and placed second of eight teams to improve its record to 33-10.

Individually for the men, sophomore thrower Kevin Phipps (Reynolds/ Watkins Memorial) and junior  throwerGreg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) recorded both first and second place finishes each.  Phippsproduced a first-place 56-foot, 6.50-inch weight throw and a second-place 48-foot, 8.25-inch shot put toss. Patrick traded spots as he placed first in the shot with a throw of 50-feet, 0.75-inches and second in the weight throw with a toss of 49-feet, 7.25 inches.  Junior thrower Brett Scarl (North Olmsted) finished third in the weight throw with a heave of 48-feet, 9.50-inches.  The distance-running duo of senior Nate Bowen (Fremont/ Ross) and junior James Eberts (North Canton/ Hoover) collected a first and second place finish, respectively, in the 1000-meter run.  Bowen recorded a time of 2:34.03 and Eberts posted a time of 2:38.36.  Sophomore sprinter Drew Matak (Salem) finished third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.64 seconds and freshman middle distance runner Mark Warman (Strongsville) placed third in the 800-meter dash with a 2:02.49 performance.

The Yellow Jackets next compete at the Kent State University Open tomorrow, Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Kent State University.  Only select Yellow Jacket men will compete in the unscored meet. The meet begins at 10:00 a.m.
