Men's Swimming and Diving Breaks Two School Records, Stands in Fourth Place After Day Two of OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio -  The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team breaks two school records while sitting in fourth place with 131 points on the second day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University at University of Akron inside Ocasek Natatorium. 

The Yellow Jackets individual highlights included:

  • Sophomore Austin Kingsley (Northport, N.Y.) breaks the school record for the 500-yard freestyle by finishing ninth with a time of 4:46.39, upsetting the previous mark of 4:47.78.
  • Sophomore Tommie McQueary (Batavia/Bethel Tate) placed seventh in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 1:54.48
  • Junior Mason Kooyman (Concord Township / Chardon) finished 11th in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 21.56 seconds

BW relays were highlighted by:

  • The men's 800-yard freestyle relay team, which competed yesterday evening and consisted of senior Austin Olsavsky (Medina), Kingsley, McQueary and sophomore Gannon Mellett (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Moon Area) finished fourth in a time of 7:01.23, breaking a three-year-old school record time of 7:07.26.

  • The 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Kooyman, sophomore Luke Minick (Stow / Archbishop Hoban), sophomore Will Bolin (Mansfield / Ontario) and Olsavsky finished fifth in a time of 1:26.89

  • The 400-yard medley relay team of Kingsley, senior Alec McNeill (Avon Lake), McQueary, and Kooyman placed fourth in a time of 3:31.01 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow for day three of the OAC Championships at University of Akron inside Ocasek Natatorium. Preliminary action begins each day at 10 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m.
