Men's Swimming and Diving Falls in Double Dual Meet in Regular Season Finale

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team drops a pair of non-conference matchups over NCAA Division II Notre Dame College and NCAA Division III Frostburg State University in the Mellen Pool inside Keller Center.

This morning while en route to the meet, the charter bus transporting the BW Swimming and Diving Team was struck by a stolen vehicle during a police pursuit. Fairview Park police department was in high pursuit of the stolen vehicle that collided with the charter bus that was carrying our student athletes. Members of local law enforcement and first responders cleared our student-athletes prior to leaving the scene to continue onto their meet. No one from Baldwin Wallace was injured in the crash.

BW (8-6) fells to Notre Dame to a final score of 145-117 and Frostburg, 171-91. 

The Yellow Jackets individual highlights included:

  • Sophomore Tommie McQueary (Batavia/Bethel Tate) won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 52.73 seconds and won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:02.05 and won the 100-yard individual medley in a time of 55.63 seconds
  • Sophomore Tyson Swihart (Sarasota, Fla. / Sarasota Military Academy) placed fifth in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:03.15
  • Senior Austin Olsavsky (Medina) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:50.40 and 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.90 seconds
  • Sophomore Jason Tafoya (El Paso, Texas) placed fourth in the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 27.67 seconds
  • Senior Alec McNeill (Avon Lake) finished fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 30.12 seconds
  • Junior Mason Kooyman (Concord Township / Chardon) finished fourth in the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 25.30 seconds and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.80 seconds
  • Freshman Nolan Szuch (Springboro) finished third in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 59.16 seconds
  • Sophomore Austin Kingsley (Northport, N.Y.) placed second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:02.39 

BW relays were highlighted by:

  • The 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Kooyman, Kingsley, sophomore Will Bolin (Mansfield / Ontario), and Olsavsky placed third in a time of 1:32.61
  • The 200-yard medley relay team of Kingsley, McNeill, McQueary and Kooyman finished third in a time of 1:41.70

The Yellow Jackets are back in action at the four-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Wednesday-Saturday, February 15-18 at the Ocasek Natatorium in University of Akron. Preliminary action begins each day at 10 a.m. with finals to be held each night at 6 p.m.
