Men's Swimming and Diving Beats Mount Union in One Point Victory

BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace men's swimming and diving team claims a victory over University of Mount Union to a final score of 117.5-116.5 in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center. 

BW (7-0) won 6 out of 12 events, as it defeated Mount Union to a final score of 117.5-116.5.

The Yellow Jackets individual highlights included: 

  • Sophomore Gannon Mellett (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Moon Area) placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:35.76
  • Senior Austin Olsavsky (Medina) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:47.06
  • Junior Mason Kooyman (Concord Township / Chardon) won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.06 seconds and finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in a time for 49.21 seconds 
  • Sophomore Tommie McQueary (Batavia/Bethel Tate) won in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 53.77 seconds and finished second in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:04.52 and second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:02.28
  • Freshmen Jason Heisler (Saline, Mich. / Saline) won the 1-meter with a score of 164.95
  •  Freshman Nolan Szuch (Springboro) won the 100-meter backstroke in a time of 56.87 seconds
  • Sophomore Austin Kingsley (Northport, N.Y.) won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:54.80

 BW relays were highlighted by:

  • The 200-medley relay squad of Szuch, senior Alec McNeill (Avon Lake), Kingsley and Kooyman won in a time of 1:41.47
  • The 200-freestyle relay team of Mellett, sophomore Luke Minick (Stow / Archbishop Hoban), sophomore Tyson Swihart (Sarasota, Fla. / Sarasota Military Academy), Olsavsky placed second in a time of 1:30.14

The Yellow Jackets return to the pool on Thursday, November 17 - 19 as it travels to Oberlin for a three day non-conference meet against Oberlin College in the Carr Pool.
