BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed on the final day (Sunday, December 6) of the 2009 SUNY-Fredonia (N.Y.) Blue Devil Invitational in Fredonia, New York. The Yellow Jacket men placed second and the women were seventh of the 10 teams competing.
BW is now idle until its annual winter break training trip in Cocoa Beach, Florida from December 30 to January 10. The Yellow Jackets return to competition on Friday, January 15 at Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University at 6:00 p.m.
For the men on Sunday, junior four-time All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton) won the three-meter event with 468.10 points after breaking a pool-record on Friday night on the one-meter board (486.70 points).
Junior Hector Diaz (El Paso, Texas/ Cathedral) finished second in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:40.75 and freshman Tony Tijerina (Napoelon) placed sixth in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.74
For the women, freshman diver Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville Broadview Heights) finished second on the one-meter board with 409.15 points and reached an NCAA Division III qualifying mark. She also reached the cut on the three-meter board on Friday.
Freshman Gabby Parker (Girard, Pa./ Villa Maria Academy) placed sixth in the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 2:08.06.
