BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Ohio Athletic Conference and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University today (Saturday, January 30, 2010) in University Heights. Highlighting the meet was a pair of record-breaking performances by freshman diver Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville Broadview Hts.

The Yellow Jacket men lost, 127-116, and the women lost, 146-65. The BW men fall to 3-11 overall and are 1-3 in the OAC, while the women are 0-14 overall and 0-4 in the OAC.

For the men, junior four-time All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton) placed first in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events with totals of 498.38 and 478.79 points, respectively. Also freshaman Tony Tijerina (Napoleon) finished third in both the one-meter dive and three-meter dive. Junior Hector Diaz (El Paso, Texas/ Cathedral) placed first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.91. Junior Ryan Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.12 seconds. Freshman Nate Brown (Columbia Station/ Olmsted Falls) placed first in the 500-yard free in a time of 5:31.33.

In addition, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Nic Null (Shelby/ Mansfield St. Peter's), senior Mark Andrasek (Parma/ Normandy), junior Mike Demitrieff (Parma/ Normandy) and senior Jordan Irwin (Westerville/ Westerville South) placed first with a time of 1:32.17.

For the women, Pinter placed first in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events with final scores of 467.53 and 446.92 points, respectivley. Each mark was a school-record. Also placing in the one-meter dive was Erin O'Donnell (Perry) who ranked second with a final score of of 424.73 points. O'Donnell joins Pinter and Richert as Yellow Jacket divers who have provsionally qualified for the NCAA Championship meet.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Kelsey Richards (Wadsworth), freshman Lauren Schaefer (Westlake), sophomore Katie Cvelbar (South Euclid/ Regina) and freshman Gabby Parker (Girard, Pa./ Villa Maria Academy) placed first with a time of 1:48.16.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 18-20 at the 2010 OAC Championship Meet at the University of Akron. Preliminarys begin each day at 11:00 a.m. with the finals for each of those events contested each evening at 6:00 p.m.
