Yellow Jacket Swimming & Diving Teams Open Season with Losses to Wheeling Jesuit (W. Va.)

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams each opened the season with a loss to visiting Wheeling Jesuit University (W. Va.) this afternoon (Saturday, October 17, 2009) at the BW Natatorium. The men lost 164-130 and the women fell 182-97.

On the men's side, sophomore Nic Null (Shelby/ Mansfield St. Peter's) placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.41. Junior Ryan Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) was first in the 50 free with a mark of 22.90. Junior Hector Diaz (El Paso, Texas/ Cathedral) won the 500 free at 5:12.12 and junior four-time All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton) was first in both diving events with 184.15 points and 295.60 points, respectively.
On the women's side, freshman Gabby Parker (Girard, Pa./ Villa Maria Academy) was second in the 100 free with a time of 58.92, sophomore Katie Cvelbar (South Euclid/ Regina) was second in the 200 backstroke at 2:33.87, and junior Lauren Schaefer (Westlake) finished second in the 500 free with a time of 5:52.32.
The 400-yard free relay team of Schaefer, freshman Kelsey Richards (Wadsworth),  Cvelbar and Parker placed first with a time of 3:59.61.
Freshman Erin O'Donnell (Perry) also won the one-meter dive with a score of 155.65.
The Yellow Jackets next compete on Saturday, October 31 versus Ohio Athletic Conference rival Wilmington College at 1:00 p.m. in Berea. The BW Alumni Meet is next Saturday, October 24 at 10:00 a.m.
