Men's Basketball Cages Ohio Northern

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team defeated Ohio Northern University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game by a final score of 70-63 in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center. 

BW Leaders (7-9, 3-4 OAC)

  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Jake Snyder (Stow/Archbishop Hoban) led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 23 points and three assists. 
  • Sophomore guard Ashton Price (Bay Village/Bay) added 17 points and two rebounds. 
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Anthony Mazzeo (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) contributed 15 points, two assists, and three rebounds. 

ONU Leaders (6-8, 2-5 OAC)

  • ONU was led by C.J. Napier who tallied 20 points, five rebounds, and one assist. 
  • Adam Scott made an additional 18 points and five rebounds. 

First Half (Tie 30-30)

  • The Yellow Jackets were first on the scoreboard in the first half with a layup from Price at 17:30.
  • After some back-and-forth action, Ohio Northern went on an 8-2 run to take the lead. 
  • BW fought their way back with a 13-2 run, tying the match at 26-26 with 5:18 left in the half. 
  • The teams traded baskets until they went into halftime tied 30-30.
  • Price led the Yellow Jackets in the first half with 15 points.
  • Senior forward Jackson Simmons (Wadsworth) added six points and three assists.
  • Leading the Polar Bears in the first half was Napier with 14 points.

Second Half (BW 70-63)

  • The second half began when Mazzeo hit a three to give the Yellow Jackets an early lead. 
  • A 9-2 run at 17:32 by the Yellow Jackets extended their lead, but Ohio Northern worked to keep their lead in the single digits. 
  • BW worked to pull their lead ahead, but the Polar Bears kept them close never letting the Yellow Jacket advantage beyond nine. 
  • A three from Snyder and four points from Mazzeo allowed BW to pull ahead late in the second half with 3:42 left. 
  • Late free throws by BW gave them some extra points, and the Yellow Jackets walked away with a 70-63 win over the Polar Bears. 
  • The high scorer in the second half for BW was Snyder with 20 points.
  • Mazzeo contributed 11 points to the Yellow Jacket score. 
  • Scott led Ohio Northern in the second half with 16 points. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, January 14th when they host OAC opponent Capital University in the first game of the men's and women's doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. at Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
