Men’s Basketball Cruises Past Muskingum on the Road in OAC Clash

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball picked up an Ohio Athletic Conference with a commanding win over Muskingum University by a final score of 89-76 on the Performance Court inside the Anne C. Steele Center.

BW Leaders (6-7, 2-4 OAC)

  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Anthony Mazzeo (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) led the way with 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Jake Snyder (Stow/Archbishop Hoban) added 13 points and eight assists.
  • Sophomore guard Ashton Price (Bay Village/Bay) contributed 16 points.
  • The BW defense picked up 10 steals and held Muskingum to under 25% from three.

Muskingum Leaders (0-13, 0-6 OAC)

  • Sophomore guard DJ Donnell led the offense with 25 points.
  • Freshman guard Duane Davis added 14 points. 

First Half (BW 44-26)

  • The Yellow Jackets started the half with the first bucket as Mazzeo connected on a pair of free throws.
  • BW forced an early Muskingum timeout after Mazzeo connected a triple to give the Yellow Jackets a 7-2 advantage.
  • The Fighting Muskies clawed their way back to take their first and only lead with 14:52 left on the clock as Donnell went 2-2 from the charity stripe.
  • An 20-2 offensive blitz by BW gave them a 30-13 advantage with 5:35 left in the half.
  • A late half three point surge by Snyder and Mazzeo sent the Yellow Jackets into halftime with a 44-26 lead.
  • Mazzeo was the high scorer of the half with 15 points, while shooting 3-5 from three.
  • Snyder added nine points, six assists, and three boards on 3-3 shooting.
  • The Muskingum offense was led by freshman forward Kaelan Pulliam with seven points and three rebounds.
  • Davis added six points and five rebounds.

Second Half (BW 89-76)

  • BW picked right up where they left off with Price scoring off a layup.
  • An 8-0 run by the Fighting Muskies at 10:06 cut the Yellow Jacket to seven at 60-53.
  • BW responded with an 8-2 run to regain a 12 point lead as sophomore forward Zoltan Nagy (Lakewood/St. Edward) scored off a Price assist.
  • Muskingum kept cutting the Yellow Jacket lead to single digits but BW always had a response to the attack.
  • Late free throws by the Yellow Jackets gave them a 16 point lead before Donnell hit the final three with 13 seconds remaining.
  • Senior forward Jackson Simmons (Wadsworth) posted 15 second half points
  • Price added nine second half points.
  • Donnell led the Fighting Muskies with 23 second half points. 

BW returns to the home hardwood on Wednesday, January 11 when they host an OAC contest against Ohio Northern University with tipoff at 7:00 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
