Men’s Basketball Drops OAC Contest to Marietta

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team fell to Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference game by a fin al score of 86-84 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW Leaders (9-10, 5-7 OAC)

  • Sophomore guard Ashton Price (Bay Village/ Bay) led the way with a career best tying 24 points.
  • Sophomore forward Jarred Logan (Elyria/Elyria Catholic) added a career best 13 points.
  • Sophomore forward Zoltan Nagy (Lakewood/St. Edward) scored a career best 12 points.

Marietta Leaders (12-7, 7-5 OAC)

  • Senior guard Cooper Parrott scored 19 points.
  • Junior guard David Sanford also added 19 points.

First Half (42-38 Marietta)

  • Price started the action with a three pointer off a senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Jake Snyder (Stow/Archbishop Hoban) assist.
  • The Yellow Jackets started the game on a 13-5 run to force a Marietta timeout with 16:19 on the clock.
  • The Pioneers responded with a 10-2 run to tie things up 15-15 with 11:47 in the half.
  • With 6:45 left in the half, BW was able to regain a six point lead off a senior forward Jackson Simmons (Wadsworth) layup.
  • A 7-0 run by Marietta gave a 42-38 advantage going into the half.
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Anthony Mazzeo (Canton/Massillon Jackson) led the Yellow Jackets with 10 first half points.
  • Nagy added eight points and a team-high four rebounds.
  • Parrott was the high scorer for the Pioneers with 11 points.
  • Sanford added 10 points off the bench.

Second Half (86-84 Marietta)

  • Marietta opened up the half with a 5-0 run to a 47-38 lead.
  • BW responded with a 10-1 run to tie things up at 50 with 14:04 left in the half.
  • A three by Sanford gave Marietta an eight point lead with an 8:12 lead left in the half.
  • The Yellow Jackets battled back to cut the lead to 2 at 81-79 with 1:24 left in the game off a Logan layup.
  • Price three got the game to within 1 with 22 seconds left.
  • Junior guard Jac Alexander went one of two from the free line to give the Pioneers an 86-84 lead with 19 seconds left.
  • Snyder was able to get off three with the clock ticking down that fell short and the Yellow Jackets could not get off another shot.
  • Price led all scorers with 17 second half points
  • Snyder added 12 points and three assists.
  • Alexander led Marietta with 12 points in the half.

BW returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, February 1 when it travels to Alliance to take on No. 3 nationally ranked the University of Mount Union in the Timken Gymnasium inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex at 7:00 p.m.
