Yellow Jacket Bats Erupt in 23-9 Win at Hiram

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team erupted for a season-high 23 runs and 24 hits in a 23-9 victory at Hiram College this afternoon (Wednesday, March 31) at Fishel Field in Hiram, Ohio. Senior first baseman Chris Nealon (Avon Lake) led the Yellow Jacket attack with four hits and seven runs batted-in.

B-W, now 5-7 overall, plays at the No. 5-ranked College of Wooster tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at Art Murray Field in Wooster. The Yellow Jackets also open their Ohio Athletic Conference schedule at No. 10 Marietta College on Saturday, April 3. Hiram falls to 3-13 overall.

The Jackets scored in seven of nine innings with three in the first, one in the second, five in the third, three in the fifth, one in the six, three in the seventh and seven in the ninth.

Ten different Yellow Jackets recorded hits and seven turned in multi-hit performances

Nealon
 finished the game 4-for-6 with his first homerun of the season, a double, seven RBI and three runs scored. Senior outfielder Ted Cowling (Streetsboro) was 4-for-7 with his first homerun and four RBI. Senior second baseman Matt Rollins (Wallbridge/Millbury Lake) was 3-for-5 with a triple, two RBI and four runs. Senior third baseman Jim Martin (Euclid) was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs. Sophomore shortstop Anthony Longhitano (Cuyahoga Falls) was 3-for-6 with three runs.

On the mound, sophomore Chris Terlop (Strongsville) tossed three scoreless innings in relief to pick up his first collegiate victory. Nealon also tossed two innings out of the bullpen without allowing an earned run.
