B-W Baseball Team Falls at Malone in First Northern Action of the Spring

BEREA, OHIO -- After a 10-day layoff, the Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team returned to the diamond for its first northern action of the 2010 season and lost to Malone University, 9-5, this afternoon (Wednesday, March 24) at Thurman Munson Stadium in Canton.

The Yellow Jackets, who had not played since Florida spring trip action on March 13, fall to 4-5 overall. B-W is back in action this Friday, March 26 versus Lake Erie College at Kiwanis Recreation Park in Painesville, Ohio. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.

Malone, now 16-5 overall, scored in six of eight innings with multiple runs in the first, fourth and sixth. Yellow Jacket sophomore Josh Scott (Strongsville) started and threw the first four innings to fall to 1-1 for the season. Seniors Scott Luthman (Celina) and Brian Boveington (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) each pitched in relief.

At the plate, four Yellow Jackets had multi-hit games and senior second baseman Matt Rollins (Walbridge/ Millbury Lake) was 3-for-5 with two runs-batted in. Senior designated hitter Scott Nealon (Avon Lake) and senior first baseman Chris Nealon (Avon Lake) were each 2-for-5 with an RBI and senior catcher Matt Bush (Grafton/ Midview) was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Following action at Lake Erie on Friday, B-W is set to play a doubleheader at Walsh University on Sunday, March 28 at 1:30 p.m.
