B-W Baseball Team Swept by Capital on Seniors' Day; Fisher Coaches Final Career Games

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team closed out its season with a pair of losses to visiting Capital University on Seniors' Day (Monday, May 10, 2010) at Heritage Field in Berea. Capital won the opener, 5-2, and the nightcap, 7-2. Today's games were the last in the legendary career of B-W Head Coach Bob Fisher who retires after 42 seasons and 700 career wins.

The Yellow Jackets end the season at 12-23-1 overall and 6-11-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Coach Fisher
retires with an overall record of 700-641-14. With the sweep, Capital finishes at 13-24 overall and 6-12 in the OAC.

In game one, Capital scored once in the first with a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly. The Crusaders added to their lead with four runs in the third on four hits and two suicide squeeze bunts.

B-W got on the board in the bottom of the seventh when senior first baseman Chris Nealon (Avon Lake)
singled then scored on an opposite field homerun by twin brother Scott Nealon (Avon Lake).

On the mound, senior captain and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection Justin Novak (Strongsville)
started and took the loss to fall to 4-4 for the season. He pitched seven innings for his sixth complete-game, allowed five earned runs on 10 hits and struck out three.

Capital's Matthew Uy stymied B-W's hitters for the first six innings and allowed only four hits in seven innings to pick up the win.

Scott Nealon
led B-W at plate by going 2-for-3.

In game two, Capital took advantage of two BW errors to score a pair in the second. The Crusaders added one in the fifth following a sun-aided double and a two-out single then added four more on five hits in the sixth.

Senior Scott Luthman (Celina)
started and took the loss to fall to 4-3. He allowed five earned runs in six innings and struck out a pair. Senior Brian Boveington (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) threw the final three innings, did not allow a run and struck out two.

At the plate, senior Jim Martin (Euclid)
was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Junior John Ulanski (Bay Village) was 1-for-4 with a run batted-in.

Prior to today's twinbill, the College honored its 10 baseball senior student-athletes who played in their final games as Yellow Jackets.
