B-W Baseball Team Falls at #5-Ranked Wooster, 16-6

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team lost to fifth ranked (www.d3baseball.com) The College of Wooster, 16-6, today (Thursday, April 1, 2010) in a nine inning non-league contest at Art Murray Field in Wooster.

The Yellow Jackets are now 5-8 overall and next play on Saturday, April 3rd when they open up Ohio Athletic Conference play at No. 8 Marietta College at 1:00 p.m. Wooster, the 2009 NCAA Division III National Runner-Up, improves to 14-3 overall.

The Scots scored three in the first, one in the third and two in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. B-W got on the board with three runs of its own in the sixth, to cut the deficit in half. However, Wooster responded with two in the bottom half of the sixth and then exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the seventh. B-W tacked on a run in the eighth and two in the ninth for the final margin.

At the plate, senior shortstop Jim Martin (Euclid) led the BW attack with three hits in four at-bats, including two runs batted in. Senior 1B Chris Nealon (Avon Lake) was two-for-four, including a solo home run, his second of the season. Junior catcher John Ulanski (Bay Village/Bay) had two hits, two runs scored and a walk and senior outfielder Ted Cowling (Streetsboro) had two RBI and two walks.

On the mound, sophomore Bill Bostelman (Marion/ Harding) started and pitched the first four innings and took the loss, surrendering six runs (all earned) on seven hits. He also walked three and struck out three Wooster batters.

Following Saturday's twinbill at Marietta, B-W plays at NCAA Division I Cleveland State University on Tuesday, April 6 at 4:00 p.m. at All-Pro Stadium in Avon. The Yellow Jackets next home contest is next Thursday, April 8 when B-W hosts Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University at 4:00 p.m. from Heritage Field.
