Baseball Team Defeats Rival CWRU, 8-6, in University Circle
BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team defeated Cleveland cross-town and non-league rival Case Western Reserve University, 8-6, today (Thursday, April 9) in a single, nine-inning game in University Circle. The win was the eighth in the last 11 games for the Yellow Jackets.
 
With its win, B-W is now 12-11 overall and next plays on Saturday, April 11 when it hosts Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University in a doubleheader at Heritage Field in Berea at 1:00 p.m. With its loss, CWRU falls to 10-20 overall.
 
B-W junped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the top of the second inning and CWRU closed to within 4-3 with three runs of its own in the bottom half of the frame. B-W built its lead to 5-3 with a run in the third and to 8-3 with three more in the fifth before the Spartans scored their final three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Freshmen Jono Susini (Twinsburg/ Senior) and Collin Wright (Lorain/ Admiral King) pitched the final three innings to shut down CWRU.
 
Offensively, the Yellow Jackets outhit the Spartans, 14-9. Leading the way were junior second baseman Scott Nealon (Avon Lake), junior rightfielder Ben Stoper (Medina/ Senior), freshman LF Sam Walylyshyn (North Ridgeville) and freshman shortstop Anthony Longhitano (Cuyahoga Falls) as each had two hits. In addition, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference 1B Riley Kreisher (Conneaut/ Ashtabula Edgewood) crashed his team-leading seventh homerun and his third in two days, and senior ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-American CF Cody Kidd (Wellington) had three runs batted-in.
 
On the mound, freshman righthgander Josh Scott (Strongsville) pitched the first five innings and gained the victory to improve to 2-0 overall. He allowed seven hits and three runs (all earned), struck out six and walked just one. He was followed to the mound by Susini in the sixth and Wright in the eighth.
 
Following Saturday's OAC doubleheader against Capital, B-W is idle until Tuesday, Apri 14 when it hosts OAC arch-rival Mount Union College in a twinbill in Berea. The first game begins at 1:00 p.m.
