Baldwin-Wallace College Baseball Team Loses to Notre Dame College, 10-2, in Euclid

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team lost to Notre Dame College, 10-2, today (Thursday, April 30, 2009) at Paul Serra Field in Euclid.

B-W falls to 18-18 overall and will end the regular season with an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against Wilmington College on Saturday, May 2. With its win, Notre Dame improves to 9-38 overall.

Notre Dame opened a 2-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  B-W closed to within one run with a tally in the top of the third.  The Falcons then increased their lead to 5-1 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, and added five more runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 10-1 advantage.  The Yellow Jackets scored once in the top of the ninth, but were unable to move the score closer than the 10-2 final.

At the plate, senior ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-American centerfieler Cody Kidd (Wellington)scored one run and tallied two hits in five at-bats to give him 181 for his career, just three shy of tying former Academic All-American and Cleveland Indians' farmhand Erik Young's school-record of 184 from 1986-89. Junior second baseman Scott Nealon (Avon Lake) reached based safely three times in five tries, including one double, and also drove in one run.  Junior shortstop Jimmy Martin (Euclid), playing at his former homefield while attending Euclid High School, went one-for-four with a solo homerun.

On the mound, freshman righthanded pitcher Bill Bostleman (Marion/ Harding) started and pitched the first four and two-thirds innings.  He gave up five runs (all earned) on six hits and struck out five batters.  Junior righty Jono Susini (Twinsburg/ Senior) came on in relief and recorded two outs.  Susini gave up four runs (all earned) on three hits and fanned one batter.  Junior righthanded pitcher/ designated hitter Chris Nealon (Avon Lake) closed out the final 2.2 innings by allowing just one run (earned) on two hits.  He also struck out two batters.

B-W ends its season by hosting OAC foe Wilmington College in a Seniors' Day doubleheader on Saturday, May 2 at 1:00 p.m.  The twinbill will mark the final games for six Yellow Jacket seniors, including righthanded pitchers Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa./ Grove City), Brandon Fredericks and Jim Palko (Euclid), third baseman Jake Gross (West Farmington/ Warren Champion), first baseman Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/ Edgewood), rightfielder Mike Brisky (Berea) and Kidd.  With a pair of wins, B-W can both end its season with a winning record and even its OAC slate at 9-9.
