Baldwin-Wallace Baseball Team Splits Doubleheader Against OAC Foe Mount Union in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader with Mount Union College today (Thursday, April 16) at Heritage Field in Berea. The Yellow Jackets took the opener, 3-2 in eight innings, but the Purple Raiders won the nightcap, 9-5. 

B-W is now 15-12 overall and 6-6 in the OAC and has won 13 of its last 19 games. With the split, Mount Union moves to 17-9 overall and 7-5 in the OAC.

In the first game, Mount Union opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the second inning. The Yellow Jackets scored a pair of runs in the third on a two-run triple to right field by junior second baseman Scott Nealon (Avon Lake) and the Purple Raiders sent the game to extra innings with a run in the sixth. B-W won the game in its half of the eighth when Nealon hit a bases-loaded single to left scoring senior ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-America centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington).

On the mound, senior Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa./ Grove City) evened his season record to 3-3 after tossing a complete-game and allowing only two runs while striking out three. Brad Griffith came on in relief in the eighth for Mount Union but did not record an out en route to his first loss of the season.

Offensively for B-W, Nealon was two-for-three with three runs batted-in. Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference 1B Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/ Edgewood) was 1-for-1 with three walks and senior RF Mike Brisky (Berea) was 1-for-3 with a double.

In the second game, B-W grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Kidd scored on a Matt Rollins (Walbridge/ Millbury Lake) RBI double.  Mount broke the game open with three runs in third and added to its advantage with two in the fourth and four in the sixth.  B-W plated four runs in the seventh to cut the defecit in half, but was unable to overcome the Mount Union advantage.

Offensively, Kidd was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.  Kreisher went 1-for-4 with two RBI and NealonRollinsand Brisky each had run scoring hits for the Yellow Jackets.

On the mound, junior righthander Scott Luthman (Celina) lasted four innings and took the loss to fall to 3-2 on the season.  Senior righthander Jim Palko (Euclid) and freshman righthander Jon Connelly (Brook Park/ Middleburg Heights Midpark) pitched in relief with Connelly throwing a scoreless inning.

B-W next plays an OAC doubleheader at Heidelberg College on Saturday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m.
