The Yellow Jacket Baseball Team Defeats Division II Lake Erie College, 12-8, in Berea
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jacket baseball team defeated NCAA Division II Lake Erie College today (Wednesday, March 25) in Berea by a score of 12-8 in eight innings.
 
With its win, B-W improves to 5-8 overall.  The loss drops Lake Erie to 3-15 overall.
 
Lake Erie jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first inning but the Yellow Jackets struck back with three in the bottom half of the inning, capped off by an RBI single by junior designated hitter Brian Boveington (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls).  Lake Erie tallied two more in the second to regain a 4-3 lead but BW broke the game open with five runs in bottom of the inning to take an 8-4 advantage. A two RBI single by Boveingtonagain closed the Yellow Jackets rally.
 
After B-W added a run in the fifth inning via a sacrfice fly by senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference first baseman Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/ Edgewood), Lake Erie scored three runs in the top of the seventh to close the gap to 9-7.
 
The Yellow Jackets added three insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 12-7.  Kreisheragain coming through, this time with an RBI triple. Lake Erie tacked on one run in the eighth inning but BW shut down Storm rally to preserve the victory.
 
Offensively, the Yellow Jackets were led by senior ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-American centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington) with four hits including a double, an RBI and four runs scored.  In addition to Kidd, Boveington had three hits, four RBI and reached base in all five plate appearances. Sophomore rightfielder Ben Stoper (Medina/ Senior) also had three hits with an RBI and three runs scored.
 
On the mound, freshman righthander Josh Scott (Strongsville) went six and two-thirds and earned the victory in his first collegiatestart.  Freshman Collin Wright (Lorain/Admiral King) pitched the final 1.3 innings and earned his first career save.
 
B-W's next game is at Walsh University, tomorrow March 26 at 4:00 in North Canton. After tomorrow's game, B-W is at home for five straight contests, including games against OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on March 28, NAIA foe Walsh University on March 29, Cleveland traditional rival Case Western Reserve University on March 31 and versus NCAA powerhouse The College of Wooster on April 2.
