Yellow Jacket Baseball Team Swept by Rhode Island College in Winter Haven, Florida

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jacket baseball team lost both games in a doubleheader today (Wednesday, March 11, 2009) in Winter Haven, Florida to Rhode Island College. RIC won the first game, 7-5 in 11 innings, and the second game by a score of 11-10.  B-W is now 2-4 overall on the 2009 campaign.

In the first game, B-W scored two runs in the first, one in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 5-1 lead into the seventh. But, RIC countered with four runs of their own in the seventh, sending the game into extra innings.  Rhode Island scored two in the 11th to close out the win. On the mound, sophomore southpaw Nick Flanigan (Wadsworth) started and pitched six innings, allowing three runs while striking out four. He was followed by freshman righthander Josh Scott(Strongsville), junior righty Brian Boveington (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls)and junior righthander Chris Nealon (Avon Lake). Nealon suffered the loss to fall to 0-1.

Offensively, the Jackets were led by junior second baseman Matt Rollins (Walbridge/Millbury Lake), who went 2-for-4 with a double, one run batted-in and a run scored.

In the second game, Rhode Island scored five runs in the first and six in the third. BW answered with 10 runs of their own over the next five innings, but it was not enough to earn the split. At the plate, B-W was led by senior first baseman Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/Edgewood) who went 2-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles. SeniorESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-American centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington) was 1-for-3, had an RBI and scored two runs, while junior 2B Scott Nealon (Avon Lake) was 2-for-3 with three runs scored. 

On the mound, senior righthander Jim Palko (Euclid) took the loss to fall to 0-1, while freshman righty Jon Connelly (Brook Park/Midpark) pitched three innings of scoreless relief.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow, Thursday, March 12 when they play a single, nine-inning game against Thomas More (Ky.) College at 9:00 a.m. in Winter Haven.
