B-W Baseball Team Loses to St. John Fisher (N.Y.), 13-7, in Season Opener in Florida
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team lost to St. John Fisher (N.Y.) College, 13-7, today (Sunday, March 8, 2009) in its season opener in Winter Haven, Florida on the first day of its annual spring break trip.  On the trip, the Yellow Jackets will play 10 varsity games in seven days.
 
The Yellow Jackets, 0-1, fell behind 5-0 after four innings before scoring twice in the top of the fifth to close to within 5-2. St. John Fisher added three more runs in the bootom of each the fifth and sixth innings to build an 11-2 bulge. B-W added single tallies in the top of the seventh and eight innings to close to 11-4, but SJF scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to gain a nine-run cushion at 13-4. B-W scored three times in the top of the ninth to close out the scoring.
 
Offensively, junior rightfielder Ben Stoper (Medina/ Senior) led the way with two hits and a run batted-in and senior ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-American centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington) had a double and three RBI.  On the mound, senior righthander Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa./ Grove City) started and suffered the loss. He was followed to the mound by senior right Jim Palko (Euclid) and sophomore lefthanderNick Flanigan (Wadsworth).
 
The Yellow Jackets are back in action in Winter Haven tomorrow when they play Transylvania (Ky.) University in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 noon.
