DEFIANCE, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated NAIA Division II foe the University of Saint Francis (Ind.), 8-1, at Defiance College in the second of two matches today. The Yellow Jackets beat Defiance University, 7-2, earlier today.
The Yellow Jackets, now a perfect 5-0 overall, led 3-0 after doubles play as the number one tandem of sophomores Peter Harris (Akron/ Revere) and Doug Ganim (Westerville/ Olantangy Orange), the No. 2 duo of senior Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) and junior Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) and the No.3 tandem of sophomore Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and senior Zach Elbin (Findlay) all won.
In singles action, Fredrick, who played at No.1 due to an injury to Patterson during doubles play, lost by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Harris won at No. 2 with scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Ganim won at No.3 by the scores of 6-1 and 6-1. Elbin won at No.4 by the scores of 2-6, 7-5 and 1-0 in the third-set tie-breaker. Freshman Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/ Bexley) won at No.5 with scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Freshman Jake Liebler (Medina/ Senior) won at No.6 by the scores of 6-1 and 6-1.
The BW men are back in action next Saturday, March 1 when they host Penn State Behrend University at 4:30 p.m. at the North Ridge Racquet Club in Northb Ridgeville, Ohio. This is a rescheduled match from February 15. The Yellow Jackets then travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina on their annual Spring Break Trip from March 9-15.
BW's 5-0 record this season increases its three-season mark to 57-2 overall in dual matches. In 2011-2012, BW set a single-season school record with 29 victories, had a 29-1 record, won the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference regular season (9-0) and tournaments titles and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament. Last season, the Jackets produced a 23-1 record.
