NORTH RIDGEVILLE, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University, 7-2, today at the North Ridge Racquet Club in North Ridgeville in its 2014 OAC opener.  The match was moved indoors due to cold and inclement weather in Northeast Ohio.

With its win, BW is 12-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC while Capital falls to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in the league.
 
The Yellow Jackets led 3-0 after doubles play as the number one tandem of sophomores Peter Harris (Akron/ Richfield Revere) and Doug Ganim (Westerville/ Olentangy Orange) won, 9-8, to improve to 14-3 overall. The No. 2 duo of junior Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) and senior Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) also won, 8-4, to improve to 13-2 overall. The No.3 tandem of senior Zach Elbin (Findlay) and freshman Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) won, 8-3, to improve to 9-3 this season.
 
In singles action, No.1 player Patterson won by the scores of 6-2 and 6-2, Harris won at No.2 by a 6-4 and 6-1 count, Ganim won at No.3 by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0. No. 5 player Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington / Bexley) won by a 6-2 and 6-1 count.

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 5 when it hosts Otterbein University at the "Pop" Collins Courts in Berea at 1:00 p.m.
 
BW's 12-1 start this season increases its three-season mark to 64-3 overall. In 2011-2012, BW set a single-season school record with 29 victories, had a 29-1 record, won the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference regular season (9-0) and tournaments titles and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament before losing to eventual finalist Kenyon College. Last season, the Jackets produced a 23-1 record with the only loss coming to OAC champion and NCAA tourney participant Ohio Northern University.
