ERIE, Pa. -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team remained unbeaten in dual matches this season with a 9-0 shutout of Penn State Behrend on the Behrend Tennis Courts.
The Yellow Jackets (2-0) gained a 3-0 advantage after doubles when the number 1 team of senior Brad Minrovic (Akron/Ellet) and freshmen Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) as well as the No. 3 duo of freshmen Brandon Caynor (Norton) and Letch Radomirov (Fairview Park /Fairview) won by scores of 8-0. Freshmen Jake Liebler (Medina) and Brian Carano (Akron/Revere) won by a score of 8-6 at number two doubles.
In singles action, Minrovic won his first singles match by scores of 6-3 and 6-2, Katz won at number two with scores of 6-0 and 6-1, Carano took home third singles by scores of 7-5 and 6-0, Liebler won fourth singles by identical scores of 6-1, Radomirov won at fifth singles with scores of 6-1 and 6-0 and Caynor captured sixth singles by identical scores of 6-1.
BW ends its fall "non-traditional" portion of its schedule on September 27-30 at the annual ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Fall Central Region Tournament at Kalamazoo College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The team will resume play in late February, travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina on its annual spring break trip in March and finish the schedule in April or May.
BW's 2-0 record this season increases its three-season mark to 54-2 overall in dual matches. In 2011-2012, BW set a single-season school record with 29 victories, had a 29-1 record, won the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference regular season (9-0) and tournaments titles and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III national tournament. Last season, the Jackets produced a 23-1 record and an 8-1 OAC slate.
