HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team lost its first match of the season when it was defeated by Albion (Mich.) College, 5-4, today in the third of six matches on its annual Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina.  This is just W's third loss in the last three years (60-3 during that span).

The Yellow Jackets, now 8-1 overall, led 2-1 after doubles play as the number one tandem of sophomores Peter Harris (Akron/ Richfield Revere) and Doug Ganim (Westerville/ Olentangy Orange) won, 8-2 and the No. 2 duo of junior Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) and senior Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) won, 8-4.

In singles action, Albion won four of six matches to clinch the win.  BW's winners were Harris at No.2 by the scores of 6-4, 6-7 and 1-0 (10-7 in the pro-set) and Ganim at No.3 and by the scores of 6-3 and 6-4.  Four of the six singles matches went three sets, including the match at No.6 that ended in a 13-11 Albion triumph in the final pro-set.
Tomorrow, BW plays Gordon (Mass.) College at 8:00 a.m. and then faces Edgewood (Wisc.) University at 6:00 p.m. The Yellow Jackets end their spring trip in Hilton Head on Wednesday, March 12 when they play Lake Forest (Ill.) College at 6:00 pm.
BW opens Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday, March 22 when it hosts Capital University at the "Pop" Collins Courts in Berea at 1:00 p.m.

BW's 8-1 start this season increases its three-season mark to 60-3 overall in dual matches with all three losses coming to NCAA Division III national tournament qualifiers. In 2011-2012, BW set a single-season school record with 29 victories, had a 29-1 record, won the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference regular season (9-0) and tournaments titles and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament before losing to eventual finalist Kenyon College. Last season, the Jackets produced a 23-1 record with the only loss coming to OAC champion and NCAA tourney participant Ohio Northern University.
