HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated Lake Forest (Ill.) College, 6-3, today in the final of six matches on its annual Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Yellow Jacket, 11-1 overall, won five of six matches on its trip.
The Yellow Jackets led 3-0 after doubles play as the number one tandem of sophomores Peter Harris (Akron/ Richfield Revere) and Doug Ganim (Westerville/ Olentangy Orange) won, 8-1, to improve to 13-3 overall. The No. 2 duo of junior Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) and senior Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) also won, 8-1, to improve to 12-2 overall. The No.3 tandem of senior Zach Elbin (Findlay) and freshman Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) won, 9-8, including 7-3 in the tie-breaker, to improve to 8-3 this season.
In singles action, the Yellow Jackets and Foresters splot six matches. Winning for BW were No.1 player Patterson by the scores of 6-4 and 6-0, Harris at No.2 by a 6-4 and 6-1 count and Ganim at No.3 by the scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Patterson improved to 8-6 overall, Harris is 10-4 and Ganim has a team-high 13 victories and a 13-2 slate.
In addition to the trio of winners in singles, senior No.4 player Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) has an 8-5 mark, freshman No.5 player Nathan Katz (Medina/ Senior) is 11-5 and junior Letch Radomirov (Fairview Park/ Fairview) is 9-2 overall.
BW returns to northern and Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday, March 22 when it hosts Capital University at the "Pop" Collins Courts in Berea at 1:00 p.m. BW's 11-1 start this season increases its three-season mark to 63-3 overall.
In 2011-2012, BW set a single-season school record with 29 victories, had a 29-1 record, won the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference regular season (9-0) and tournaments titles and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament before losing to eventual finalist Kenyon College. Last season, the Jackets produced a 23-1 record with the only loss coming to OAC champion and NCAA tourney participant Ohio Northern University.
