BW Men’s Tennis Team Loses to Otterbein in OAC Title Match

MASON, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein University, 5-0, today in the OAC Championship Match at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. Otterbein now advances to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

With its loss, BW ends its season at 19-4 overall. Otterbein is 18-4 overall and will play in next week's NCAA tourney.

The Cardinals led 3-0 after doubles play as the No.1 tandem of sophomores Peter Harris (Akron/ Richfield Revere) and Doug Ganim (Westerville/ Olentangy Liberty) lost to the Otterbein tandem of David Seckel and Will Willson by an 8-6 score. The No.2 duo of junior Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) and senior Brad Minrovic (Akron / Ellet) lost to the Cardinals pair of Zach McDivitt and Ryan Shutt, 8-5. The No.3 team of sophomore Keven Fredrick (Archbold) and senior Zach Elbin (Findlay) lost to Otterbein's Kendall Coffman and Tyler Gibbons by a score of 8-6.

In singles action, Minrovic lost at No.4 to Coffman, 6-0 and 7-5 and freshman Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/ Bexley) lost to McDivitt, 6-3 and 6-3. In the other matches that did not finish, Patterson led 1-0 in sets at No.1 singles and Harris led 1-0 at No.2.

Minrovic
, a CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 player in 2013 and a two-time Academic All-OAC student-athlete, ends his career as one of the winningest players. He had a 60-30 career singles mark to rank 14th all-time in school history and a 75-17 doubles slate to rank fifth all-time.

Despite its loss to Otterbein, the BW men's tennis program is one of the best in the midwest. The past three years, the Yellow Jackets have compiled an impressive 71-6 record with a .922 winning percentage. Veteran Head Coach Brian Rector '89 ends his 25th season as the leader of the program and is the winningest men's tennis coach in school, OAC and Ohio collegiate history with a 456-89 mark with an amazing .837 winning percentage.
