DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated host Ohio Wesleyan University inside the Gordon Field House.
The Yellow Jackets (3-0 overall) led 3-0 after doubles play as the number one tandem of sophomores Peter Harris (Akron/ Revere) and Doug Ganim (Westerville/ Olantangy Orange) as well as the No. 2 duo of senior Brad Minrovic (Akron/Ellet) and junior Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) won by scores of 8-3. Sophomore Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and senior Zach Elbin (Findlay) won by a score of 8-5 at number three doubles.
In singles action, Patterson won at No. 1 by scores of 6-3 and 6-3, Harris won at No. 2 with scores of 6-1 and 6-1, Ganim took home third singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-2, Minrovic won fourth singles by identical scores of 6-4, freshman Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/ Bexley) won at fifth singles with scores of 6-1, 6-7 and 11-9. Freshman Jake Liebler (Medina) captured sixth singles by identical scores of 6-1.
The BW men are back in action on next Saturday, February 22 when they travel to Defiance, Ohio and Defiance College to play a doubleheader. The Yellow Jackets play NCAA Division II St. Francis (Ind.) University at 12:00 noon and then play the host school at 3:00 p.m. The Penn State- Behrend match has been rescheduled for March 1 at 4:30 and will be played at North Ridge Racquet Club in North Ridgeville.
The Yellow Jackets travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina on their annual Spring Break Trip from March 9-15.
BW's 3-0 record this season increases its three-season mark to 55-2 overall in dual matches. In 2011-2012, BW set a single-season school record with 29 victories, had a 29-1 record, won the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference regular season (9-0) and tournaments titles and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III national tournament. Last season, the Jackets produced a 23-1 record.
