MASON, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team won 96 of a possible 99 games and easily defeated Muskingum University by a 9-0 shutout today in the first of Ohio Athletic Conference rmatches at the Linder Family Tennis Center this weekend. BW also faces Marietta College later today at 5:00 p.m. and plays against Heidelberg University tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.
With its win, BW is 14-2 overall and 3-1 in the OAC and has won seven of its last eight matches. Muskingum falls to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the OAC.
The Yellow Jackets led 3-0 after doubles play as the number one tandem of sophomores Peter Harris (Akron/Revere) and Doug Ganim (Westerville/Olentangy Orange) won, 8-1, to improve to 17-3 overall and 14-0 at No.1. The No. 2 duo of junior Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) and senior Brad Minrovic (Akron/Ellet) also won, 8-0, to improve to 16-2 overall and 12-0 at No.2. The No.3 tandem of senior Zach Elbin (Findlay) and freshman Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) won, 8-0, to improve to 11-4 this season and 7-4 at No.3.
In singles action, Patterson won at No.1 by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0 and is now 10-7 overall. Harris won at No.2 by a 6-0 and 6-0 count and is 13-5 overall. Ganim won at No.3 by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0 and is 16-3 overall. Minrovic won at No.4 by a 6-0 and 6-0 score and improved to 9-8. Freshman No. 5 player Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) won by a 6-0 and 6-0 count and is 13-7 this season. Junior No.6 player Letch Radomirov (Fairview Park/Fairview) won 6-0 and 6-0 to improve to 11-3 overall.
Following its matches this weekend in Mason, BW is back in action on Tuesday, April 15 when they travel to Ada, Ohio and play Ohio Northern University at the ONU Courts at 3:30 p.m.
